NEW PROJECT IN THE WORKS!!!
Nutria Queens
My photographic works deals primarily with fairy tales and gender roles, and as an outreach of that topic I am interested in how women balance the reality of being female with the unrealistic expectations dictated by events and ceremonies like pageants.
I am looking for past or current QUEENS (pageant, festival, crewe, homecoming, etc.) for portraits that explore the life of beauty queens off stage. I am not asking to take a picture of you doing anything you would not normally be doing...but I would like to see YOU – at work, with your family, grocery shopping, hunting, fishing, or whatever it is that you do that may or may not be representative of your beauty queen past. Show me how the "ideal woman" as judged by beauty competitions and hometown rituals is not nearly as fascinating as the woman you are today. Or, show me how you still wear that crown today, and how that title enriched your life.
I'll be in southwest LA from August 13th until the 20th making these portraits, and the project may continue as I return to the Midwest. Please contact me if you are interested in participating at the email address below - I welcome questions about the project and process and hope to meet you soon!!!
